Some work from The Stones Cry Out Exhibition Lincoln
During an artistic career spanning over 45 years, the towns, cities, and natural surroundings of the North of England have been a great inspiration. I spent many years living in Sheffield, which is evident in the content and strong affinity with this area. I have been living in Woking with my wife Liz for more than 15 years meaning my work found focus on this area and taken the boundless opportunities of easy access to London.
Since retirement I have been able to broaden my body of work combining my love of travel with a desire to capture the very essence of a place, using pen and ink, watercolour and most recently digital photography. My artwork is my diary, a record of my travels around the British Isles and Europe and occasionally Internationally.
I have exhibited my work in many venues over the years always with positive feedback, One significant activity was a 2 year residency at Lincoln Cathedral which culminated in an extremely successful exhibition of photographs, pen and ink and pastel work.
My work often focuses on the details of scenes which may otherwise be overlooked by the casual observer; the intricacy of the knots tethering a fishing boat at Filey or the abstract patterns to be found only on close-up inspection of a single leaf or flower. The beauty in the world around us is something that greatly interests me as an artist and is a theme which runs through much of my work.
Some varied examples of my work can be seen on this site along with details of up-coming exhibitions. If you are interested in a specific piece of work or a commission, get in touch I would be delighted to help.
